Even though all black teas come from the same plant and follows the same processing steps, not all black tea is the same. Like wine, tea has a flavor profile that varies based on the soil, season, weather and elevation. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e","published_at":"2021-05-13T17:24:34-07:00","sort_order":"alpha-asc","template_suffix":"","disjunctive":false,"rules":[{"column":"tag","relation":"equals","condition":"black"}],"published_scope":"global","image":{"created_at":"2021-05-13T17:24:33-07:00","alt":null,"width":925,"height":617,"src":"\/\/www.hummtea.com\/cdn\/shop\/collections\/Tea_cup.jpg?v=1631471743"}},{"id":281918636199,"handle":"wellness","title":"Connoisseur Tea's","updated_at":"2025-05-03T12:15:26-07:00","body_html":"","published_at":"2022-01-05T14:19:47-08:00","sort_order":"best-selling","template_suffix":"","disjunctive":true,"rules":[{"column":"tag","relation":"equals","condition":"White Tea"},{"column":"tag","relation":"equals","condition":"Specialty"},{"column":"tag","relation":"equals","condition":"Premium"}],"published_scope":"global","image":{"created_at":"2022-01-05T14:22:41-08:00","alt":null,"width":249,"height":165,"src":"\/\/www.hummtea.com\/cdn\/shop\/collections\/spoons-lined-up-holding-loose-leaf-tea.jpg?v=1658271094"}}]

There’s something special about slow mornings by the window, where everything feels just a little softer.
Today it was a cup of Golden Assam. It’s smooth, rich, and bold without being too sharp. Honestly, it might be my new favorite way to start the day.
I poured it into my favorite Tea set and sat with the quiet, the plants, and this little woven bunny keeping watch. It reminded me why I love tea so much—it’s not just about the flavor, it’s the pause, the presence and relaxing start.
If you’re looking for a morning tea that really holds you… this might be the one.

My favorite
The tea of the day is Hummingbird Tea Company's Golden Assam. Having tried four of their teas, I can say that this one stands out as my favorite. A high-quality Assam is always a good option. I first tried it with sugar alone and found it to be enjoyable. Then, I added milk and sugar, which made it perfect for a morning cup. Additionally, the tea's ingredients are organic black tea, catering to those who prefer organic products. I will definitely be purchasing this one and the gunpowder black for my collection.

Perfectly gentle assam!
This Golden Assam from Hummingbird Tea is a really fascinating sip: a taste experience that combines the vegetal umami typical of gold teas and the maltiness of an assam.
The scent definitely leans more towards the umami, and the taste overall is gentler than your usual assam, which I love. Assams are usually too malty for me, but this one is wonderful! Like the other teas I’ve had from this company, it’s very tolerant of a longer steep (4 minutes). I definitely recommend this if you’re curious about it and love pure teas!

Rich and Bold
Golden Assam is rich, bold. The deep amber brew delivered a smooth, full-bodied taste with a hint of natural sweetness. It’s the kind of tea that wakes you up and warms you from the inside out. Perfect for a strong morning cup or an afternoon pick-me-up. This one definitely earns a permanent spot in my tea stash.

Delicious medium-bodied Assam
Upon brewing, the leaves exhibited an attractive size and a lovely greenish-brown color. The liquid was a rich copper hue with a malty aroma. The tea was smooth, malty, and medium-bodied. I observed that the flavor profile was reminiscent of prunes, peaches, apricots, and a hint of cherry, similar to brandy. Although my preference typically lies with strong, robust black teas, I found this medium-bodied Assam to be thoroughly enjoyable. I suspect it would make a delightful iced tea when served with lemon. This Assam is certainly something I would purchase.
